Creag Meggan enjoys magnificent views from all bedrooms across the De Valley and Grampian Hills. It is a large detached house one mile from Ballater on the road to Balmoral Castle. All rooms are en suite and have tea and coffee making facilities. It is ideally placed to visit many places of interest and magnificent countryside.
Ballater is an excellent base for all kinds of activities. Primary among these is the many walks in the area, both for absolute beginners, more experienced walkers and skilled mountains walkers/climbers. Other activities include cycling, golf, skiing, gliding, swimming, shooting and fishing, nature and historical study, general rest and recuperation.
Eating and drinking are an experience at the local award winning hotels, restaurants and shops. There is something for everyone here who wishes healthy activities and a "Taste of Scotland" whether on the plate or in the glass!.
Balmoral Castle is open for visitors from Easter to July 31st. The National Trust of Scotland has many outstanding properties in the area which includes Crathes Castle, Craigevar Castle and Castle Fraser. Many of the National Trust Properties include extensive gardens. Follow the Whiskey Trail. Many well-known names in the Malt Whiskey industry welcome visitors.
The premises open for visitors include The Glenlivet Distillery, The Glenfiddich Distillery, Cardu Distillery and the Strathisla Distillery. For the young and Young at Heart about 1 hour's drive from Ballater through beautiful countryside is the Landmark Forest.
Landmark Forest is Scotland's most exciting Heritage Park, with ancient forest, the tallest timber town in the country with amazing views. Red Squirrel Tree top trail, Three wild water experiences on the wild water coaster. Steam powered sawmill working from Easter to October, Adventure playground and much more.
