Your first and lasting impression of family run Clarence House is of its cosy hospitality and relaxed informality. Guests are treated more like old friends and the welcoming country house ambience is more home from home than hotel.
Inspired by proprietor Pauline Barber and late husband Tom's global travels to some of the world's leading hotels, and managed with pride and passion by daughter Victoria, this exclusive hotel and restaurant, provides a unqiuely personal experience.
It is an eye for detail that distinguishes Clarence House, from the gorgeous floral decorations, adorning the grand Victorian fireplace, to the sumptuous fabrics and fine furnishings all hand picked and arranged by Pauline.
Once inside, you are free to make yourselves at ease and leave your cares behind. Unwind with a coffee amongst the plump sofas of the lounge, enjoy a convivial drink within the snug atmosphere of the bar or lose yourself in a good book in the library. Christmas and New Year at Clarence House are memorable, with glittering trees and garlanded beams, glowing open fires and tables filled with festive fare.
Out and about from Clarence House are escapes of every description. Quiet beaches for tranquil strolls; Lake Windermere and Coniston Water for gentle cruises and contemplations; and one of Wordsworth's favourite haunts the lovely Duddon Valley.
With Furness Abbey, South Lakes Wild Animal Park, golfing, fishing and horse riding all close by, there is plenty to entice everyone.
