Cathedral Gate
Built in 1438 this private hotel is centrally located between the tranquillity of the cathedral and the bustle of the shopping precinct. Old beams, winding corridors and sloping floors attest to the age of the building, but all bedrooms are attractively furnished and equipped to modern standards. There is a comfortable guests' lounge and breakfasts are served either in the bedrooms or in the small breakfast room.

Spread along twisting corridors among ancient tiled rooftops, the rooms enjoy modern amenities but still bespeak their medieval construction, with massive beams, sloping floors, and tell tale low doorways. Today's pilgrims get ensuite bathrooms, in room telephones, TV etc. While some rooms defy complete conversion, they provide a comfortable budget option for the sensitive pocket.

Our dining room overlooks the colourful Buttermarket. In warm weather, enjoy the peace and tranquility of our roof terrace .Spend time in our quiet reading lounge, taking in it's striking view of Canterbury Cathedral just thirty paces away, where we can provide you with tea, coffee or drinks from our small reception bar to help you relax between forays into the city life.

Cathedral Gate is a very special small hotel in Canterbury, type "boutique hotel". It is locatetd in a very old building from the 15th century in the very heart of Canterbury's old town dirct beneath the cathetdral and the "buttermarket" If you expect "international" style and perfectness, aou are definetely wrong at this hotel. The building is old, the rooms are old, the sanitary facilities are old, you can find wear and tear everywhere. but you will also find a wonderful atmosphere, clean rooms, very friendly and helpful staff, you can feel that you are welcome and not only a paying guest. Our next stay in Canterbury we'll definetly stay at this hotel again.
