Welcome to the Arkle Cottage home page. Arkle is a STB 3 star rated self-catering holiday cottage, offering accommodation for up to 4 people. Arkle is situated on the outskirts of Lairg, 49 miles north of Inverness at the southern tip of Loch Shin in the northern Highlands of Scotland.

Arkle cottage is in a quiet location over looking Lairg and Loch Shinn on the edge of Gunn’s plantation. It offers wonderful views over Loch Shin and the distant hills to the front and immediate access to the woodlands behind. Arkle provides the ideal location for your holiday touring the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

Arkle is located at the end of a small lane leading from Lairg High Street. The cottage has an open plan kitchen/diner/lounge. The lounge has an open fire, TV, DVD player, CD player, radio and patio doors. A flight of five steps takes you to the landing, leading on to one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and bathroom with electric shower. Each bedroom has an electric panel heater. Each bed also has an electric blanket to ensure you are really cosy

The kitchen has a fridge with ice box, electric cooker, microwave and washing machine/tumble drier. The kitchen also boasts a full complement of utilities including cafetiere, toaster, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans.

To the side of the cottage is a clothes line and to the rear is a wild meadow garden approx 20m long backing on to Gunn’s plantation. Space for parking is available at the front of the cottage. Arkle is fitted with a smoke alarm. No smoking is allowed within the cottage. Pets by arrangement.

Arkle Cottage is conveniently located on the edge of Lairg which itself can be found at the southern end of Loch Shin. In common with most places in the Highlands, Lairg offers all the facilities required. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage is Crofters Restaurant (offering family meals), the Nip Inn(which offers bar meals and a restaurant), an ATM, Post Office, pharmacy, general store and news agents. Also within Lairg are two more general stores, a fish & chip shop and a petrol station.

The Ferrycroft Countryside Centre has interesting exhibitions on the history and wildlife of the area and lots of other tourist information. The centre also has internet facilities.

There are many opportunities for walking and sightseeing around Lairg, but being centrally located in the northern Highlands, Lairg offers easy access to the east, north and west coasts. Driving is a delight in the Highlands with little traffic and so much to see in terms of scenery and wildlife that any journey is a pleasure.
