Buchaam Farmhouse, Strathdon

Buchaam Farm is set amongst the unspoilt beauty of Strathdon within the Cairngorm National Park in the Grampian Highlands. With 650 acres to explore you can walk or cycle along tracks through the forests and hills, catch fish from the River Don, go birdwatching in the area and skiing in the Cairngorm Mountains.

Castles, Gardens and Whisky Distilleries are some of the many visitor attractions in this area as well as the Royal Estate at Balmoral. At the end of your day relax in the farmhouse or one of our comfortably furnished cottages where our guests return again and again.

The first record of buildings at Buchaam date from 1420, the main part of the present house is believed to be two to three hundred years old. The Celtic meaning of the name Buchaam is"curved bend" and in"The Land of Lonach" as "The howe where cows graze".

The farm has 22 archaeological sites with an earth house adjacent to the farmhouse. The Ogg family have been resident in Strathdon and neighbouring Glenbuchat since 1400 apart from a short lapse from 1928 - 1958. The name Ogg has been synonymous with Aberdeen Angus cattle throughout the world for many years. Alexander Ogg won many honours in Scotland and exported bulls to New Zealand, Brazil, Argentina and South Africa. Alex also won manyhonours in Argentina and America as an advisor.

At present the farm is an upland mixed(livestock and crops) and is part of the Cairngorms Environmental Sensitive Area in the Cairngorms National Park. Alexander Ogg's son and grandson, Charles and Keith, currently win honours locally for their Limousin Cross herd.

Set in an open situation with panoramic views of Strathdon the cottages are fully furnished and equipped to a high standard for seven people. Sitting room with open fire and colour TV. Dining room leads to all electric kitchen with cooker,fridge, microwave and washing machine.
