Named after Lady Astor, the 3 star Astor Hotel Plymouth is an old Victorian hotel dating back to the 18th century and was originally the home of a ships captain. Imagine a Victorian Plymouth hotel that is a true ‘home from home’, recently refurbished to an extremely high standard, you will find a choice of comfortable, tastefully furnished en-suite rooms and suites, a cosy lounge bar, a restaurant serving delicious International cuisine and of course Joseph and his experienced team to look after you. The name Astor derives from the famous Astor family from Virginia in the USA. Nancy Witcher Langhorne, Lady Astor (1879-1964), was the first woman member of Parliament to take a seat in the House of Commons, when she succeeded her husband in the constituency of Plymouth in November 1919. Lady Astor remained in parliament until 1945, as an active champion of women’s rights, educational issues, and temperance.
On special occasions in Plymouth, the Lady Mayoress has worn the famous Astor Diamonds which were donated to the City of Plymouth by Lady Astor.
