Abbots Thorn is a homely Dales house built between 1754 and 1850 (we have delved through some archives but this is the closest we can get) and has, we suspect, the only round chimneys in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, reputedly the stones came from Middleham Castle. Central heating, a wood burning stove and modern boiler make sure your stay is warm, comfortable and relaxing.
We offer a warm, friendly welcome to all our guests and they have the option of a double en-suite, twin/super king en-suite or a double with sole use of the house bathroom. All rooms face south and have wonderful views over Coverdale.
The bedrooms
Lilac
Lilac is a spacious double en-suite bedroom with a pine bed, sofa and Welsh dresser, it is named after the old lilac tree in the front garden.
Honeysuckle
Honeysuckle, a cosy, comfortable twin/super king double en-suite is named after the honeysuckle growing across the front of the house.
Jasmine
Jasmine is a double and has a wash basin in the room and has sole use of the house bathroom which is situated just down the hall and has bath and shower.
All rooms have tea, including herbal tea, coffee, including decaff, hot chocolate, biscuits, fresh milk and sweets. Also included is a hair dryer, alarm clock radio, WiFi and Freeview tv. Use of the phone can be arranged.
We have been awarded 4 Star VisatBritain Award.
Breakfast is served in the Edwardian dining room, Pat’s love of cooking can be seen in the superb food emanating from the kitchen’s Aga. There is a breakfast menu in each bedroom so you may choose the night before what delectable delight you would like for breakfast, it ranges from the “full Yorkshire” to lighter options, there is always a supply of cereals, fruit juice, yogurt and fruit to start with and most days home made fresh bread.
The guest lounge with its oak beams and wood burner, for those chilly evenings, books, walking maps, puzzles, cards and a cribbage board.
Guests are invited from 4.00pm onwards and checkout is 10.00am unless you have arranged otherwise.
