A66 Motel, Richmond

This small motel stands, as its name implies, on the A66 road, about halfway between Scotch Corner and Barnard Castle and is conveniently situated for travellers on their way to Scotland or the Lakes.

In most people's minds, the word motel conjures up a visioin of a soulless, functional establishment, - all plastic and canned music. Not so, the A66 Motel, where the only things that appear 20th Century are the modern appointments in the six letting rooms which are all complete with radio and colour television, private bathrooms, with tea and coffee making facilities and hairdryer.

The rest of the building, lounge bar and restaurant has been converted from an old farmhouse during the 40 years the Hall family, have been in residence. The restaurant offers a high standard of food served seven nights a week, open to both residents and no residents. Food is available all day at the A66 Motel.
