In 1847 the small Klein Karoo town called "veldskoen" was renamed Outshoom. Oakdene was built on the main road by Mr. JH Muller who later built Outshoom`s magnificent sandtone "Moederkerk" and the pastorie. In Oakdene Muller`s style blended cape venacular wih elements of traditional Victorian and Klein Karoo architecture.

The original Victorian trelliswork which remains intact was added at the turn of the century while furrow or lei running past the front of the house is still the original which supplied water to Oudshooms inhabitants. In order to preserve the lei, oak trees and original fascade of building it was declared a National Moument in 1998. Now fully restored it remains one of the most striking and historically signicant buildings in Oudtshoom.

Breakfast is included, in our homely kitchen or outside on the stoep. Beautiful handpainted tableclothes by Liza, decorate the dining area and are also available to purchase as a keepsake.
