The Saltings Estate
The Saltings in Sandspit, Matakana, offers superior self catering accommodation set amongst the vines with stunning water views. This lovely coastal property is only forty five minutes north of Auckland and situated on a biodynamic vineyard and is the perfect base to explore the Matakana Coast Wine Country. Close to all amenities yet completely tranquil, the ambience will appeal to the romantic at heart.

The luxury Bordeaux and The Merlot Suite have fully equipped kitchen facilities, a lounge, a dining room and French doors leading onto private decks. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and a clawfoot bath in the Master bsuite adds an extra touch of luxury. The Sealy superking beds are top of the orthopaedic range, providing good back support. A luxurious feel is achieved with the silk pillow top to ensure a comfortable and restful sleep. Fine linen, feather duvets, bathrobes and electric blankets complement these fine beds.

Both apartments are ideal for couples or the entire house can be booked exclusively for up to six adults.

Unpack your bags and stay for a few days or more where you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine made from the vines stretched out before you. Amble down to the Sandspit Café for breakfast by the sea or if you can’t drag yourself away from this gorgeous spot, make your own and enjoy it on the deck overlooking the vineyard and water.

For lovers of walking, there is a beautiful coastal bush walk right on our doorstep and for lovers of wine we offer our guests a tour of our biodynamic vineyard and wine tasting for an extra charge. Bookings are essential for this activity. Come and linger with us for a while, where everything we do is in harmony with nature. Some people just never want to leave from here. This place is good for the soul.

A minimum stay of two nights is required and three during peak seasons. There is plenty of secure off street parking and we have free wireless internet access for your laptop. On site wine tasting is offered to guests at an extra cost - bookings are essential for this. Please check with us in advance for availability of this service.

What a truly delightful 'home away from home'! The apartment was extremely well-equipped with everything you could possibly think of. Great kitchen facilities so we could cook a lovely meal to have on the deck overlooking the vineyard and bay. The hosts were very welcoming, greeting us with a basket of fresh fruit on arrival. Two nights were not enough for us, so we will have to return for a longer stay! A truly fantastic place!

We arrive in New Zealand after an upsetting and exhausting journey that lasted 36 hours. Our trip's purpose was to attend our daughter's wedding and we were hoping to spend some precious time with our daughter and her fiance. Immediately after being greeted by our daughter, her fiance and his family, we were wisked off to the Saltings Estate cottage in the vineyard with our daughter and her fiance. There we spent 3 lovely unforgettable days! This cottage is such a gem - quiet and peaceful with one of the most beautiful views! My daughter and I loved the little kitchen - it was beautifully appointed (LeCreuset cooking utensils and other delightful dishes & eating ware), even with a dishwasher & microwave. We were able to fix lovely breakfasts/dinners that were fun to prepare in that precious little kitchen. (We also found some great places to eat out in the area - ask the hosts for recommendations. We were also able to find a couple grocery stores pretty close for our needs.) There was

It was wonderful! We loved our stay here and highly recommend this beautiful property which also has a vineyard. The views of the water and hills beyond are magical. Very comfy beds and delicious breakfasts and the little village of Matakana nearby has a superb restaurant called Tapiano.
