Artful Vacations, Antigonish

On the shores of Antigonish Harbour just ten minutes from the lovely little university town of Antigonish is the Cottage on the Cove. It shares six acres with the Artist's Beach House but is privately nestled in the woods overlooking its own small cove that is attached to the main body of water. Recently built, the contemporary architecture was designed to surround a series of turquoise concrete sculptures designed and constructed by the artistic team of Patricia Gaines and Wendell White. High vaulted ceilings and spacious walls house large works of contemporary art that compete with the gorgeous landscape seen through the generous windows.
The structure has 1400 ' of living space that constitutes one large bedroom with a queen bed, walk in closet and sliding glass doors that lead out to its own deck.
The main level has another walk-out to an outdoor dining area and a large wrap-around porch. The concrete table below intercepts the wall and continues outdoors.
A Vermont Casting glass-front woodburning stove rests on a sculpted platform that it shares with an entertainment centre that sends music throughout the house with speakers on both levels. The beautifully designed kitchen is fully equipped with microwave, dishwasher, fridge and stove. It's surrounded by concrete counters where guest can sit on sleek leather stools as the cooks do their thing on the other side.
The surrounding property provided the inspiration for the counters that emulate a natural flow of water or ice. We captured this scene from the frozen shoreline in January of 09. There's plenty of shoreline to enjoy; swimming or boating by canoe or kayak. Or walk the trails that we have built in to the surrounding woods that are home to variety of wildlife including blue heron, pileated woodpeckers and bald eagles.
The second level loft was designed to suit multiple purposes: writing retreat, office, artist studio, movie theatre (with a 32" flat screen TV) and a second bedroom. We searched out the best pull out sofa with an excellent queen size mattress. Comfortable bedding and plush towels are provided.
No detail has been overlooked. The full size bathroom is beautifully appointed with high end fixtures,porcelain tiles, slate flooring a rainshower shower head and a deluxe bathub.
The surrounding property is beautifully landscaped and cared for. This is an ideal property for vacation, retreat or extended business trip. The only problem is you won't ever want to leave!
