Quality Inn Prospect House, Hobart

Prospect House has long been an icon for Heritage Boutique Accommodation in Australia. It offers 21st century service second to none, with an 1830's old world ambience. The fine dining restaurant has received world wide acclaim with a consistent delivery of fresh Tasmanian produce served to an international standard with friendly service.

The classic Georgian House sits off the road on the approach to historic Richmond, a unique Georgian village which boasts the oldest Roman Catholic Church and the oldest bridge in Australia. It also has the Old Richmond Gaol (older than Port Arthur itself), a maze, the Old Hobart Town model village, antique and craft stores, wineries and wonderful early 1800's architecture.

The ground floor of the main house contains the three dining rooms that comprise Abby’s restaurant. The hotel’s reception is located in the original kitchen, which is essentially untouched, with a huge wood-fired stove and the original bread-oven all adding to the 19th century ambience.

Upstairs is an inviting guest lounge with books, magazines and board games, guest internet and email facility, a boardroom and one guestroom.Upstairs in the main house were originally four large bedrooms.

Now there is only one guest bedroom (The Kestell room), which has its own bathroom (with a claw-foot bath). The other “bedrooms” are now used as a guests’ lounge with books, magazines, Internet and complimentary port and a Boardroom that provides conference facilities for up to 14 delegates.

The old barns and haylofts in the east and north wings of the courtyard have been sympathetically converted to 10 ensuite apartments. Each tastefully decorated with antiques, creating that “old world” atmosphere yet still providing all the modern conveniences expected by today’s discerning traveler.

The servants’ quarters and coach-house, in the west wing of the courtyard, now provide accommodation for up to seven people in a three-bedroom self-contained facility (The Cottage), that also boasts a kitchenette and spa-bath. It has open fireplaces and is air-conditioned.
